Red Rock Canyon, Nevada

Whenever we go to Las Vegas on vacation we always make an effort to go to Red Rock Canyon. It is a great place for hiking and relaxing. Red Rock Canyon opens early to catch the beautiful desert sunrise and the colors of the rock are just incredible. There is a minimal charge to get into the park that supports the maintenance and up keep of the natural beauty.

Amanda & Travis Wedding Photos

It was a hot summer day in central Texas on the June 25th, 2016 for Amanda & Travis Wedding. The wedding was held in Waco Texas at the St Paul Lutheran Church.  were tears and laughter during the ceremony and we were all worried that Amanda wasn’t going to stop crying until the Pastor started in with the wedding vows rhyming like Dr Suess! It was then that the entire church was filled with laughter. It was the most entertaining Wedding ceremonies I had ever attended. After the church ceremony close to the reception hall was this very rustic building that we used as a backdrop for some very unique photos. Best of luck to Amanda and Travis as they are quite a beautiful couple. though i am a born and raised Buckeye, I will say this in their honor…. “GIG ‘EM!!!”

Lauren Senior Photos

Lauren Senior Photos shoot was my first time shooting senior pictures with additional models. These models included Molly her dog and her horse. It was a so much fun working with her and her friends as she is a young lady with a lot of life and character.  She had picked out a location for her shoot off the beaten path and with some very interesting backgrounds. The cedar bridge made setting up the light stand for the flash quite an adventure. After the first hour we relocated back to the ranch to get the additional photos with two of her best friends.

Best of luck in the up coming years as she has big plans to continue her education in nursing. Thank you for making my work so much fun and exciting!

Texas Capitol HDR

I attended a Precision Camera sponsored photo walk at the Texas Capitol in Austin and was able to meet some local photographers. I finally got to meet Robert Backman and Dave Wilson and both of these guys are very talented photographers. Robert Backman can be found roaming around various sporting events or working behind the counter at Precision Camera. Dave Wilson is now teaching HDR classes at Precision Camera, so if you want to learn how to shoot HDR or want to get better with this style, make sure to sign up for one of his classes. Don’t forget to ask him about his Texas accent!

The HDR (High Dynamic Range) photos that I posted of the Texas Capitol HDR are 2 of my favorites from that shoot. The Capitol building was under some some reconstruction and upgrades as you can tell by the scaffolding around the dome.  I really like how the clouds were that morning and we were all worried if it was going to rain out the event. When doing multiple exposures prefer to use a tripod as it makes editing so much easier and I usually shoot 7-9 exposures using a Promote Control as my Canon 5D MarkII and my Canon 7D MarkI will only shoot a maximum of 3 exposures. If you are going to shoot hand held without a tripod make sure that your shutter speed is fast enough to prevent any photo blur. The hand held technique has worked for me and it just takes some extra editing to align the photos but I only get 3 exposures with my cameras. My typical work flow includes Lightroom, Photomatix and then some Photoshop work.

Fine art prints are available for purchase at Georgetown Antiques and Artisans located on the square in Georgetown Texas.

Deerfield Beach Pier

Sometimes we get to be in the right place and the right time to appreciate the beauty of nature and we were vacationing in Fort Lauderdale Florida and I had wanted to go to the Deerfield Beach Pier for sunrise. I had planned this shoot for almost a month. I got up early to grab a cup of coffee before heading down to the pier. I walked outside and it was pouring the rain! I quickly checked my phone to see how big of a storm had erupted overnight. I was delighted to see that it was just one single cloud raining on my parade and it was about to pass in less than an hour. It was still sprinkling as we made our way to the car and drove down to the pier. We got to the beach just as the glorious sun began to crack through the cloud cover.

Hardware: Canon 5D with 24-105 F4 lens, Promote Control on Benro Tripod.

Bethany Senior Photoz 2016

Bethany made this photo shoot so easy. For as early in the morning as it was, she came prepared which made our senior portraits work easier. We shot the photos outdoors and it started out pretty chilly, as the morning progressed it began to warm up and she really started to have some fun with the photoz. She will be attending Texas A&M in the fall and we wish her the best of luck! We think she will do GREAT! Congratulations and “Gig ‘Em!”

Michelle & Tyler Wedding

We had a great time shooting photos for the  Miller & Neilson wedding at Antebellum Oaks Venue in Austin. The venue is located on the west side of Austin and had some very large oak trees where the ceremony was held. A small stream runs down the front of the property providing a variety of back drops. It was a beautiful day with perfect weather and astonishing location. Michelle looked absolutely stunning in her long white gown and the antique hair comb that was once time her grandmothers. Tyler was as calm and cool as the back side of a pillow. Neither one of them was nervous or anxious as they helped prepare the venue for this special day. This wonderous occasion was truly a lot of hard work by both families and numerous friends.

We think we did a great job of capturing the wonderful occasion. They were both so easy to work with, Michelle was worried about the timeline and I had to remind her, “It is your day and you can have it anyway you want, as long as we are out of here by midnight!” Best Wishes and Good Luck to this very happy couple! We look forward to shooting photoz for Anniversaries!

Will Farrell is Rojo Johnson

One of the best memories of attending a baseball game at Round Rock Express was Rojo Johnson making his pitching debut. There had been a news article released by the Express explaining who Rojo Johnson was and his devious past. We had all heard that Will Farrell was to make an appearance but NO ONE in attendance expected what was about to unfold. Rojo Johnson made his way in from the outfield with a white grocery bag and once he stepped on the mound he reached into the back and pulled out a beer. Popping the top on the can and taking a drink or two before starting his warm up routine. We were all impressed with the accuracy and velocity of his warm up pitches. he was then ready to begin the inning. That is when all the fun began. With the first wild pitch the batter charged the mound and the fight began! If you were not in attendance that night you missed a special surprise. Be sure to get out to the Dell Diamond as you never know what to expect next! The management team always works hard to make sure everyone in attendance has a great time! From concerts and special guests to Fireworks Fridays you can always have a great time with your family at the Round Rock Express located off Highway 79 east of Round Rock, Texas.

Round Rock, Corpus Express Interest in ‘Rojo’
05/03/2010 5:26 PM ET from Wire Reports
For the past few years, Billy Ray “Rojo” Johnson has wanted nothing more than a second chance at a life that once had such promise. Now, it appears he may get it. His story is the stuff of legend; if he seizes that second chance, a legend is what he could become. Born in East Texas in 1979, Johnson’s trek to a possible Major League career has seen its fair share of twists and turns. His father, oilman Ray Lee Johnson, began working as a consultant for Venezuelan oil companies when the country experienced a jump in oil production profits due to the 1973 Oil Crisis. After years of frequent trips between Texas and South America, Ray Lee moved the family to Venezuela in 1984.
It was in Venezuela that Billy Ray Johnson developed two things that have stuck with him to this day: a love of baseball and his nickname. By age 15, Johnson was known throughout Venezuela for a blazing fastball and a blazing temper. Teammates dubbed him “Rojo” as a play off his name, but many people suggested the nickname had more to do with his temper that seemed to echo his fiery red hair. Just when his future seemed bright, Johnson’s life began to crumble. Despite being considered by many to be the best youth pitching prospect in Venezuela, Johnson was not allowed to play for the Venezuelan 16-and-Under National Team due to his heritage. Johnson’s temper got the best of him as he unleashed a tirade in the Venezuela National Baseball Team offices, threatening harm to anyone in his sight. After trashing the offices, Johnson was physically removed from the premises. The next day, he returned with a soda bottle filled with his own urine and threw it through a window at the Venezuela Baseball offices. Two months later, Johnson’s mother, Kay, died after being bitten by a poisonous snake while on an expedition in the Amazon. Absent his mother and living with a father immersed in the oil business, Johnson began to run with the wrong crowd.

While working odd jobs on the side, Johnson continued to play baseball. Shortly after being snubbed by the Venezuela National Team, “Rojo” began playing in the Venezuela winter leagues. The 16-year-old quickly became the league’s most dominating pitcher. However, Johnson struggled to remain with any team as he continually was suspended due to fighting with opponents, umpires and even his own teammates. Oddly enough, especially after the death of his mother, stories of “Rojo” keeping various reptiles in his locker also started to surface. American baseball scouts began to hear of Johnson through players arriving in Major League Baseball from Venezuela. By his late teens, “Rojo” was known throughout the professional baseball scouting circuit. Despite Johnson’s obvious ability, Major League organizations were leery of his personal life, his reputed temper and his refusal to undergo therapy. One of the world’s greatest baseball talents was stuck in the dead-end situation of an inability to overcome himself.

Ray Lee Johnson moved back to Texas in 1996. His only child, Billy Ray, remained in Venezuela against his father’s wishes. A few years later, “Rojo” visited his father in rural Sabine County, Texas, to make peace. But it was more than just a family visit for Billy Ray; it was a business trip, as well. Two days after his arrival in Texas, “Rojo” was taken into custody by authorities. Government officials had built a case against Johnson, who was linked to the illegal importation of countless species of reptiles, including various types of rare snakes, lizards, iguanas, turtles and galliwasps. In the spring of 2000, Johnson was found guilty and sentenced to serve time in an undisclosed prison.

Soon after his incarceration, Johnson was reintroduced to his first love – baseball. Pickup games in the prison yard were common, and “Rojo” soon began to showcase his natural-born talent. But his temper still remained an issue.
Now, as his release date approaches, scouts and baseball officials have begun to take a look at “Rojo” one more time.

Recently, Texas Rangers President and Baseball Hall of Famer Nolan Ryan was asked about the legend of “Rojo” Johnson. “Sure, I’ve heard of him,” Ryan said. “He’s quite the story, that’s for sure. We’d be interested. No doubt about it. Quality pitching is pretty tough to come by these days. We might have to go after him just to keep someone else from snagging him up.”
