Texas Top Hands Tour Bus

I shot this photo in 2011 in one of my numerous trips to the Broken Spoke in Austin Texas of the Texas Top Hands Tour bus. The Broken Spoke is arguably the greatest Honky – Tonk in central Texas. This bus is no longer on the property and the story that follows is as interesting as the character of the bus itself. Broken Spoke Bus Hauled Away the story is from the Austin Statesman. You can still get free texas Two-step dance lesson every Wednesday to Saturday from 8:30 to 9:30 pm, be sure to get there early as they fill up fast! Dont forget to try one of the coldest beers in town and the chicken fried steak before you 2-step the night away to some of the best country music in the world.

Reckless Kelly Celebrity Softball Jam

IMG_8077

Every year I get the privilege of attending and shooting photos for the Reckless Kelly Celebrity Softball Jam. The softball game starts at 1:00pm every year at the Dell Diamond home of the Round Rock Express in Round Rock Texas and right after this hilarious fun game the concerts begin on two stages at about 3:00pm. Led by brothers Willy and Cody Braun, the band wanted to create a signature event with friends from the worlds of music and sports combining America’s pastime and music to benefit Austin’s youth. In eight years, the Reckless Kelly Celebrity Softball Jam has raised over $300,000 for area youth leagues (South Austin Little League, Balcones Little League, Montopolis Little League, Del Valley Little League, The Miracle League at Town & Country, The Miracle League of San Antonio, Greater East Austin Youth Association and RBI Austin) including a $150,000 renovation of Mabson Field in East Austin. (from the RKCSJ web page)

Come on out this year on May 15, 2016 for a fun filled day of celebrities pretending to be athletes, a silent auction of too many items to list here (1 year was a red rocking chair autographed by Sammy Hagar) and a years worth of Texas Country Music in an afternoon and don’t forget to stay for the FIREWORKS!!

Buy tickets here!

Gang of Thieves – Texas Rockfest 2014

I was able to get to the Texas Rockfest 2014 this year for the first time. With Texas Rockfest in the same area as SXSW getting there was no easy task. The night started out with a THUD! Once we found a place to park we sat in the car and listened to the radio for about 15 minutes when the radio shut off with no warning. I cycled the key off and on and then tried to start the car and that is when we realized that the battery had died. We decided to call AAA at the end of the night as I was anxious to get a chance to shoot some concert photos. We finally made our way down to 7th and Neches in Austin, Texas and found the Texas Rockfest Stage. The lighting wasn’t that great but at least it was better than LED lighting.  Gang of Thieves was performing and it sounded great! They are out of  Burlington, Vermont and have a funky rock sound. They are fun to watch with all the jumping and dancing on stage, they are ELECTRIC and the sound is highly contagious. Keep an eye on Tobin Salas as he can really catch some air with his bass strapped to his side! They have a very unique sound and a driving beat. The live concert didn’t have the horns and keyboards but still rocked the audience. I was lucky enough to score a demo CD and it is awesome!  I challenge you to listen to their music and see if you can resist dancing and head banging!  I just wish these guys were local as they have a sound and show that I can really support! Special thanks to Adam Brewer of Texas Rockfest for finding some amazing talent in the far northeast of America.
